Essentially Poetic Reading Series is a curation of poets, artists, essayists, novelists, educators, and everyday individuals whose deemed their voice essential, their work necessary, and their compassion for community building contagious and inspiring. This space is free of judgement and hate, and is a space for writers, readers, and admirers to come together to listen and uplift one another in a creative, poetic, and intentional online space.
Essentially Poetic is dedicated to amplifying essential voices throughout our world. By creating an online environment, we can reach beyond geographical borders and barriers. The essential voice echoes loud and translates intuitively. Join us each month as we come together to celebrate featured readers and artists and listen to their poetic and essential voice.
Meet our September Essentially Poetic Featured Readers:
Hillary Leftwich is the author of two books, Ghosts Are Just Strangers Who Know How to Knock (Agape Editions, 2023, new edition) and Aura (Future Tense Books and Blackstone Audio Publishing, 2022). She owns Alchemy Author Services and Writing Workshop and teaches writing at several universities and colleges along with Lighthouse Writers, a local nonprofit for adults and youth. Her latest work can be found or forthcoming in The Sun, Santa Fe Writers Project, and The Rumpus. She lives in Denver.

Laurie Marshall is a writer and artist working in Northwest Arkansas. Her words and art have been published in print and online literary journals and included in anthologies from Bath Flash Fiction, Belle Point Press and Best Small Fictions 2022. Her story, “Some Things You’ll Do When You Would Rather Be Happy” won the 2021 Lascaux Prize for Flash Fiction. Her first book, a collection of flash fiction titled “Proof of Life”, was released by ELJ Editions in April 2023.
Laurie is currently figuring out how to teach freshmen comp as an MFA candidate at the University of Arkansas. Light a candle for her, and remember - it’s never too late to take on a new adventure. Margaret Elysia Garcia is the author of the short story collection Graft (Tolsun Books, 2022), the poetry chapbook Burn Scars, and the debut poetry collection the daughterland poems (El Martillo Press, 2023). She's the co-editor of the forthcoming Red Flag Warning: Northern Californians Living with Fire anthology with Dani Burlison. She teaches poetry with Community Literary Initiative. She’s currently working on her second collection of poetry, and a short story collection called Catholic Chicana Noir. She writes a history column for High Country Life magazine for Northeastern California.

Roberto Carlos Garcia is the author of four poetry collections, most recently What Can I Tell You? Selected Poems (FlowerSong Press). His essay collection, Traveling Freely, is forthcoming in 2024 from Northwestern University Press. He is a 2023 NJ State Council of the Arts Poetry Fellow. Roberto's prose and poetry have been published widely, and he is the founder of Get Fresh Books Publishing, a literary nonprofit.
